Young people are important to the diversity and vitality of SewGreen. Our door is open to any teen or young adult who has an interest in what we do. Contact us to learn more.
SewGreen has job openings for up to 6 teens every summer. We train teens to become camp counselors, or work in the SewGreen store. The best way to get started is to contact a local youth job placement program, such as the Youth Employment Service (YES) at the Ithaca Youth Bureau, The Learning Web or Learning Web Outreach, JOBLink, New Roots Charter School, and other schools.
We welcome apprentices any time of year. Teens are invited to work with us in the store or as classroom assistants. Ask your high school guidance counselor or other staff about doing an apprenticeship for credit.
It's fun to volunteer with SewGreen. It also looks good on your college application form, or resume when you're ready to hit the job market. Volunteering can lead to good references, paid jobs and other opportunities.
Growing Up with SewGreen
We love seeing how kids stick with us, sometimes starting in 3rd grade until they leave for college or a grown-up job. They progress through our classes, help with free events, may become apprentices or camp counselors who learn to teach younger kids, or may even get full-time summer job with us. We are comfortable working with all young people, including those who may not have perfect home lives. They may be on the cusp between foster care and independent living, faced with pressures from family or school, dealing with anxiety, or maybe just feeling like they are different. We support the teens and young adults in our programs with unwavering friendship, help when they need it, and acceptance without reservation.
