Our Store

SewGreen's unique approach to reuse has fostered our new motto: "We Make Reuse Beautiful." Our staff, volunteers, and youth workers make sure everything in the store is clean and worthy of purchase. You'll love our low prices and bargains aplenty. Visitors are welcome to come in and just enjoy the textures, colors, and variety of our stock.

SewGreen's reuse/resale adventures started 10 years ago, with a one-day rummage sale of donated fabric and yarn. It was an experiment that stunned even us. People were lined up around the block waiting for the sale to start. They bought just about everything and wanted to know when we'd do it again. After a few more one-day sales, we opened our first store in a minuscule space, then moved to a larger space, and finally expanded into the connected storefronts we now occupy. The store's stock has also expanded to include just about anything you would find in a "new" store.

The SewGreen store and classroom, the Eileen Fisher boutique, and the Ithaca Sewing Machine Shop are all located on the ground floor of historic Clinton Hall, 112 North Cayuga Street, Ithaca NY.  Click the link for directions and a map. The store is ADA accessible and has a handicapped parking space at the back of the building.

We're here 11 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday. We are closed on these major holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

We're surrounded by pay-for-parking spaces, in effect from 9 am to 6 pm weekdays only. Parking is free on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. We are also within a block of two parking garages, as well as TCAT bus stops.

The SewGreen store is completely stocked with donated materials. To learn more about how you can donate unwanted materials, see our Donation Guidelines.

The store depends on volunteers to help us stay in business. Contact us for information on how you can join the SewGreen team.

We are often asked: "How did SewGreen get started?" and "How can I start something like this in my town?" The basic formula is Volunteers + Start-Up Funding + a Not-for-Profit Sponsor + Dedication and Never Giving Up. SewGreen in Ithaca is very proud to have fostered a group that put all of that together: SewGreen@Rochester is a sister organization whose growth and excellent work in the surrounding community is inspiring. Visit them at their new location, 438 W. Main, Rochester NY 14608. Phone: 585-328-2642.

SewGreen is committed to sustainability through reuse and example. Not much is "greener" than reusing existing materials. Our carbon footprint is small. Most of our goods are delivered by private vehicles from within a 50-mile radius. We are not part of the consumer cycle that supports unhealthy manufacturing, poor labor practices, and long-distance shipping. We prevent materials from going to the landfill. We occupy space in an energy-efficient re-purposed mercantile building centrally located and accessible by foot, bicycle, and public transportation. We are part of the local green economy. We pay our employees the Ithaca Living Wage. Not being preachy, just sayin' we feel good about what we do!
